What SUM achieved: SUM delivered and published a scientifically robust method for dynamically steering mixed purpose on demand fleets combining passenger and parcel services. The method improves match rates and reduces empty travel under stochastic demand. The intended field partner did not proceed to full implementation, but the method itself was completed and disseminated at high quality.

Life beyond SUM: Because no full pilot materialised, the immediate post project route is knowledge transfer through the published method, with later uptake possible if a suitable deployment partner emerges. The result remains valuable as design logic for mixed fleet service studies.

Target users: Cities, operators and researchers working on mixed passenger freight fleets.

Main barriers: Absence of real world validation data and dependence on a future operator willing to pilot the approach.

Post project actions and owner: TUD will monitor uptake and use the method in follow on studies during 2026 2027 and beyond if pilot interest emerges.
